Memento Mori Journal #12
Day 12 — A Powerful Question
“Now is the time to get serious about living your ideals. How long can you afford to put off who you really want to be? Your nobler self cannot wait any longer.”
To me, this is one of the most powerful sequences of words written by Epictetus.
A question so powerful that very few men can escape the sense of discomfort it brings.
It pokes right at the core of who we are, and most importantly, how well we’ve been acting.
When we stray from our path, we are essentially delaying on becoming the best version of ourselves.
We are putting off excellence in return for quick pleasure and entertainment.
A trade that no man has ever been proud of making
Question to journal on:
- How long can you afford to put off who you really want to be?
- Who do you want to become? Why?
- How would your life be different if you were this person?
- How much better would you feel?
Next time you consider slacking off, remember that this is the life you delaying on
Farewell and best of luck.
